Cell Phones: Recommend good chinesehand writing phone

On my next trip to HK, I will be looking for a new phone to augement (but probably not really replace) my trusted Motorola V3.  I was looking at potentially some sort of handwriting recognition system, if for no other reason to make me work on my chinese characters a bit more.   The Iphone is one possible, however, the hand writing apps apparently aren't all that good and really don't integrate with the phone well.

So I am looking for suggestions of model, shop, and price range.

Alternately, I might also be interested in a hand writing dictionary / translator.

Suggestions?

Hmmm...most people use pinyin to input Chinese as most people find it easier to use.

I currently use the iPhone and there are a number of Chinese handwriting applications available to use. Can provide you with a website which lists every app available for the iPhone.

I have colleagues that use HTC phones that has Chinese handwriting tools but somefind it a little difficult to use and resort to pinyin input method.

So which phone to recommend? I would be bias and say the iPhone. Rumours that a new iPhone model will be available soon.

Generally speaking, all modern phones sold in HK will give you the choice of using pinyin or pen strokes (笔画) as the inputs for Chinese character writing.  It all depends on what system you're most comfortable with.  Thus, choice of phone actually comes down most likely to your other requirements.  I don't recommend buying from those 2nd hand stores unless you know what you're doing.  Electronic dictionaries are easy to come by if you opt for that.  Just hit up the nearest Broadway or Fortress store.

Totally agree - I can't BELIEVE just how clunky win mobile is compared to the string of Nokia phones I've had before.

The worst feature?  There's no easy way to lock the keyboard!!

WM6 IS THE BEST!!!!!

I love it!!!!

of course, you have to hack the OS abit to get the most out of WM6.
Symbian/RIM doesn't even come close to what a WM6 phone can do..
but well.. there Android coming up..
could be a worthy competitor..

Exactly the point.  That's my biggest complaint against winmobile: it ain't designed for users - it's designed by geeks for geeks.

Yes it's wonderfully flexible - you can get it to do pretty much anything.  The problem is it forces you to DO a load of stuff just to get it to do anything ... even basic stuff like placing a call

iPhone rules. Lots of apps developed for all occassions.

However, only if you can live with the poor battery life

Hopefully, the new iPhone will better
