First post for me ever. I'm in Shanghai briefly for 2 months, first time back since COVID started (now August 2021).
Seems all the usual places in Shanghai are shut down.  I was told there were crackdowns but the degree of shutdown was still a surprise to me.
In desperation I went to the rub-and-tug massage place off Nanjing Dong Lu, in the alley around the SE corner from the Edition Hotel an oil massage. In the past the place was a reliable, but this time they had jacked up their prices, and the girl seemed genuinely paranoid about getting caught. After the flip, she started a tough negotiation starting at 650 RMB, and it took work to even get her to 400. For the deed she put a towel across the door's look-in window, and was extremely hurried, seemingly extremely concerned about getting caught. She even said "if LE comes in we're gonna stop ASAP and tell them it's nothing."  Very weird.   She was ok. Name is 'Mo Mo'.  Mildly attractive girl, 27-30. Nothing special. Decent real massage technique but the whole HJ under pressure thing was not good. Would not repeat.

Hi @Skepti10        , I'm not aware of Judy's and Manhattan. I'm a noob. Where are they? What are they, and how can I find out more?

@cactuss, I've no idea how to find indie/private girls. And isn't that logistically difficult?  Outdoor seemed in many ways easier. Like going to a restaurant instead of ordering in.  Less fuss less logistics. But yeah, sometimes get a crappy provider that's for sure.

Not surprised.  Shanghai has been eroding for a long time in this regard.  Last time I was there (2018) I actually saw a few massage places with their windows smashed in and police tape across the front.  Easiest way to hookup was wechat, frankly, as even those online operators such as Nightlife were occasionally busted.

Manhattan and Judy's are (or were?) two bars near Jing'an temple area that were loaded with freelancers, but the prices tend to be higher there, if they're even open anymore.  There was also a pretty great western style BBQ restaurant there.

I suggest you to read mainland forum where u can find lots of info.. Nanjing dong road is for guys who are new to China and who feels themself that they need to be cheated
