Fellow members,
In an ongoing effort to expand the membership of the forum as well as ensure the forum is a place where all members are able to contribute to the conversation, we are updating a few aspects of how members interact using Karma and Acceptance.
In the table below you can see how we have updated Karma allocations, Acceptance allocations, and something that will please many members we have expanded the PM upperlimits for members.
One change in particular that I'm sure you may quickly notice is the removal of the ability to give negative Karma or Acceptance if a member is below the level of Throbbing Titan.
This change is intended to accomplish two outcomes for the forum.
1. The ability to give negative Karma or Acceptance is something that should be earned, similar to reading access. The expectation is that once you as a member ascend to the level of Throbbing Titan you understand the dynamic of the forum and will only leverage the tool of negative ratings through the lens of experience.
2. This is an open board where anyone with an interest in our common pastime should be welcomed and encouraged to participate. The overuse of the negative ratings that have been happening, particularly against newbies, has been mostly isolated to our newer members. This change will ensure when a negative rating is given it has been done by an experienced forum member.
We understand this is not a perfect solution, but we believe that all will agree with our shared goal of making the forum as popular, active, and informative as possible for all members.
As always, the mod team is made up of the membership and I personally take a great deal of time in doing my best to better everyone's experience while you are here. We are here to support the forum.
