Was in HCMC before Chinese New Year. Wasn't really in the meet for a punt, but was intrigued by this "male pampering" concept. It seems like these barber shops ("hot tocs") have the culture of being "male pampering" destinations, including hair cuts, wet shave, massage, mani/pedi, ear cleaning etc. Some are also known for "extra services" (especially BJs based on a brief online read). I was mainly intrigued by the ear cleaning service, as I could feel that my ears were quite clogged up, so did a brief online scan of which places would be best. I ended up picking a veggie only, and a relatively expensive choice in District 1, mainly because I wanted a reputable place that had true technicians focused on ear cleaning. Last thing I wanted was a BJ expert digging into my ear and blowing my ear drum too.

Ended up at Ngan Ha in the city center, and asked for the 100min ear cleaning package. The downstairs looks like your normal hair salon, but they then bring you upstairs where there are rooms and massage tables. They call in a service provide from their other nearby branch and she comes in. She says she is an ear cleaning expert and suggests we start with that part. She lies me down, with her series of tools, and a light shining into my ear canal. I feel a bit like a patient on an operating table, and actually it feels quite comforting that she knows what she is doing and has the right tools set. She takes one look and knows this is going to be a big job, and asks whether its OK to spend more time on the ears and less on the massage, which I am totally OK with. A lot of tweezing, brushing, cajoling later, a lot of ear wax is out, and my ears feel sensitive but not painful, and much cleaner. She shows me all the stuff that she pulled out.

Afterwards, she gives me a brief and mediocre massage. At the end of time, she asks for a tip, and I give one happily and walk out refreshed.

Thought this was a unique experience to share, for any bros who might be interested. As far as hot tocs go, this one is way overpriced. So if you're just going for a hair washing and massage, and you don't mind going farther (and aren't worried about safety), there are much cheaper options out there (around VND ~250-300k from my online scan), but honestly I was find with the foreigner premium, and convenience.

So billybob666 is this your first time in Vietnam/ Ho Chi Minh City? If it is I can help with recommendation and give you information on Ho Chi Minh City. I actually done over 4 trips to Vietnam in the past 3 years.

Sidenote yes you did over paid for this "male pampering" most of these hot toc cost about 200K per hour instead with a 20ish year old girl pampering you. Of course since you are here on vacation you really didn't care much since you can afford to treat yourself.

Sure! Any recs would be great! I've only been to Linh Cherry which seemed like the safest bet. I'm usually there for work and don't have much time to explore.

Type these words on google. Kynu.net or gaito.me and it should bring you to a website with photos of many working girls. From there you just have to select HCMC/Saigon and the district you want to visit. Than select the girl you want to meet and the great thing is that the price is already listen. Only issue is that the website is in Vietnamese so I suggest having google translate the whole webpage for you. Once you pick the girl you want to visit just message them in Vietnamese for location which they will sent you a hotel location to meet them.


Walking street is only fun if you are with a group of friends if you are going solo than it fine for a one time visit. Beside that I really don't see the point since everyone know it is a tourist place that overcharge like 3 time the price for EVERYTHING.


Careful with your phone and wallet. No one gonna come up and kill or hurt you but if they can, they will try to pickpocket your phone. Just by stealing one foreigner phone it would be on average about 2-3 month salary for the average worker in Vietnam.


I am also gonna recommend a food place. This is a sim sum buffet at a Nikko hotel which is a Japanese brand 5 star hotel. The rooms here might be like 100+ USD a night which you don't even need to rent to dine here. The dim sum buffet cost only about 22USD per person. Of course there are other cheaper dim sum buffet in Vietnam but this place get extra points for being "fancy" "high class".

There is also the Vietnamese National Buddhist Temple. It is open to the public to just come in and pay their respect. So use common sense and don't be a idiot. Good for a one time sight seeing visit since you are in the area might as well.
