I am familiar with Colombia, and your experience is not unique. I am curious to know whether you paid in US dollars or local money, Colombian pesos (COPs). If you paid in US dollars, then you overpaid. But that's typical with these type of encounters, folks always end up overpaying, especially in Cartagena. If you paid in COPs, then all is good.

Cartagena is a nice city, but the girls there are sharks. They prey on foreigners. Medellin is a much nicer place for mongering, IMO. So is Bogota and Cali, but I prefer Medellin.

Don't feel too bad about paying for the taxi fare. They all pull that crap there. Just add it to the cost of mongering and adjust your offering price.  Alternatively, you can make it clear ahead of time that you are not paying for transportation. However, expect to be asked for a tip at the end regardless.

Whoops, tried to reply as a rating and screwed it up.

I paid in COP (not paying $250K USD for ANY woman!  It looks like you can get down to $60-90K COP, but they’re always way out there; the Alps seems like a common area.

I’ll be moving on to Medellín Tuesday, so we’ll see how that goes.
