What would you have done?
I am currently traveling for work in a mid-sized U.S. city and trying to forget some terrible experiences I had in Japan. Not a lot of K-orgs here, but was able to easily set up with one for a meeting about 4 hours later. There is an ATM in my hotel, so I go to withdraw the money and only am able to pull out half. After that, there seems to be some kind of fraud protection that prevents me from pulling out the other half. "OK, no problem," I think. I'll just respond to the fraud alert text and try again after some work meetings.
30 minutes before I have to go, I return to the ATM. Still not working. I call the fraud alert automated line to confirm it's me and try again. Still not working. I call the service line, they tell me I needed to add a travel advisory and to wait 5 minutes (I had been using the card to buy other things in this city and abroad in the last two weeks, so I think this is a stupid excuse [also when do you put an advisory for another U.S. state, I didn't even put one for Japan and it was fine!], but sure I'll wait 5 minutes). I wait 5 minutes and still doesn't work. I call again and am on hold for 30 minutes while the other person asks me stupid questions and then tells me that the ATM I am using is not compatible (I just pulled out half, so what do you mean it isn't). I go to a few other ATMs, but they are all in closed buildings, so no luck.
During this time, I am talking to the booker and they are naturally pissed at me, accusing me of bailing on them. I am worried about being blackmailed or have rumors spread about me to other K-orgs. I also feel really bad cheating a girl out of time she could have used for another appointment, so I sheepishly ask me coworker to spot me the other half so I can just pay the girl. By the time I get to the location, there is only 5 minutes left in appointment. I think the girl was still offering me service, but I don't know for how long and I have more work meetings soon so I just tell her I have no time and leave.
Anyway, I am just seething with anger right now. I'm mad at myself for not being better prepared and I'm mad at my bank for completely failing me, especially since they usually solve my issues in 5 minutes. I only budget enough money to see one K-girl a month, so there goes this month...
Oh well, expensive lesson learned. Have the money ready in cash before even making the appointment. I just needed to vent, since I don't have anyone to tell this to in real life lol. | |
