I think of it as necessity if you don't get enough sex with your partner. And it's not for the lack for love or attraction, but sometimes some folks are just not into sex as you would be, try different things - but you both love each other apart from the sex part and that's when this mongering activity helps. I have been in relationships where I have had great sex with my partners and I didn't monger a lot, but also been with partners who are awesome but don't like sex as much.
