So re tipping ... suppose you may be asking 1) in general like dining and cab rides, and 2) hobbying.
1) It is very much a North American thing. In HKG / SIN, very little tipping when dining out. Maybe round up a $87 bill to $90 if you feel like it. That's about all. Some places don't even have a mechanism to tip. Most don't expect it.
2) I have found that if you really like a provider and want to go back again for a visit, leaving a small tip will leave an impression and more likely than not, get you a higher chance of being remembered next time and better service. Like in SIN $150 providers, you leave an extra $10 or $20 at the end of the session. Go back in a few days and more likely than not, she'll remember you. (Since so few people tip.)
