This was my second time visiting. The last time was a week ago where I got confused trying to figure out where to go after getting out of the main baths area and ended up just going home. This second time I read enough to know that the entrance to the "restaurant" area is just past the small room with the robes and shorts for you to put on.
Once in the restaurant area I did a little walk around but it was pretty clear who the mamasan was and she noticed me right away. I approached her general direction pretending to be going for a beverage and she asked if I wanted the special massage for 4200 NTD. At first I thought she said "15 minutes" which confused me but now I understand she said "50 minutes". She led me to the entrance to the stairs which are on the opposite end of the room, but on the same side as you enter in. Basically on the other end of the food counter.
Up the stairs, into a secret door, and down the hall. I was sat down on a massage table. Waited a few minutes and a woman walked in that I wasn't particularly into. I made some sort of vague hand gesture that she understood to mean "please send someone else". Thinking the mamasan would come back I'd readied "skinny girl please" on my phone in google translate, but instead a different woman walked in that had the cutest face, I was instantly relieved. Not quite as petite as I was hoping but very cute so I gave the thumbs up. She took my key off my wrist and said something like "watch" or "wait" I'm not sure.
She prepped the massage table and I took clothes off and lied face down. Warm towel place on top and she went to work on my back. Her technique was pretty good and I was starting to relax. She'd started working on my arm and then a voice came over an intercom. I don't really understand much Mandarin so I don't know what was said but the masseuse panicked patted me to get up and was out the door before I even had my shorts back on. A moment later the door is wide open, there's other staff yelling around trying to find my key and I'm basically panicking at this point wondering if I'm going to spend the night in a jail cell. I decided not to wait around for them to figure my key situation and to follow a few other customers out the back exit which led right back into the restaurant area.
Once back in the changing room area I tried to get the minder down there to open my locker but of course I didn't have my key, they walked away and I was left wondering how to resolve the situation. Several minutes later I decided to walk back to the front desk, still in my robe, to explain that I "lost my key". Pretty soon after the staff reunited me with my key and I was putting my clothes back on. One of the staff was like "Are you sure, two minutes" as if to indicate that things were ok and I could go back up if I wanted to. I was shook, though, with adrenaline racing and just wanted to get the hell out of there.
I paid the regular sauna fee and exited the building where I encountered a row of maybe seven or eight police cars lined up on the street, lights on. Totally unclear whether they were there in connection with the sauna or if it was all just a coincidence but I definitely didn't want to stick around and find out.
Sorry this isn't a more positive first review but I hope that it's at least useful to indicate one possible experience you might have at this place. | |
