Reminisces of Mongkok street action (Soy & Shanghai)
I want to reminisce about what I believe to be one of the greatest mongering sites in Asia...
In Mongkok near the corner of Soy and Shanghai Streets before the 2010s, there used to be incredible street walker action. It was active over a few city blocks but the epicenter was at that intersection. There'd be tons of sexy-dressed girls walking around randomly and usually in groups. Occasionally, they'd dart into one of many brothels in Mongkok. They'd do that because, if you fancy her, it gives you a chance to follow her up the stairs.
The brothels weren't really brothels but short-time hotels. The money you pay her is split with the hotel owners who were obviously triads. Despite their criminality, they've always been very respectful and friendly. I'd rather deal with them than the police.
After you follow a girl up the dark stairs, the routine was usually the same. You'd be greeted by a guy who'd usher you and her into a room where porn was playing on the TV. I'd confirm the cost and the time, which was always for 45 minutes. Then you shower with her and do the deed. Sometimes, if I'm taking a long time, the phone would ring to remind me my time was up.
Another way to play the scene was going up the stairs without following any girl. Once you're up, the guy would call someone on the street who'd direct a group of girls to enter the brothel. You can then choose if you fancy any of them. This is not recommended because you're limiting your choices. But it's more discrete for you because you're not standing around on the street.
The scene had almost a carnival atmosphere with countless guys standing around watching. There were even hawkers selling street food. There were girls around the clock but it was most active between 8pm and 1am. I'd estimate on any given night, there were 80-120 girls plying the trade. They might not all be there simultaneously. Some gets rotated in and out as the night wore on.
Even if you don't bang any girls, it was great to just stand around and watch. I considered it the best free entertainment ever. I spent countless hours there and sometimes my visit will last well into the wee hours of the morning.
Most of the girls were from China. I've mongered in many Asian cities but I've found girls from China are usually the best performers. So perhaps the Soy/Shanghai scene wasn't as concentrated and crazy as, say, in Pattaya, it makes up for it by having well-performing girls.
Sadly, the scene started to die starting around 2010. I think the death of Soy/Shanghai started when 141 mongering sites gained popularity. Furthermore, I believe the rise of cellphones and smartphones made street walking less necessary.
Still, just before the pandemic, there were a small handful of girls but nowhere near the glory days. When I went to that corner last week, there was absolutely nothing. Even most of the brothels closed down. Hopefully, once the pandemic subsides, a small remnant of the scene will return. | |
