My $.02 here is that the girl, perhaps due to her age and relative immaturity or inexperience in real male female relationships, has through her "work" adopted a very pragmatic view which is not shared by a typical husband looking for a girlfriend and/or eventual wife.
I know some lovely providers respect and get on with very well, but I think their being in the business of being a provider, particularly the "lifers" who rent their own room, get mentally damaged by their profession and it makes them incapable of operating in the real world of male female relationships. Maybe less so with the massage girls and the 37D and KP girls, who can work as much or as little or as frequently or infrequently as they wish.
Contra, of course, I have heard the stories about bar girls in Thailand who have married and moved abroad, and go on with their lives (and I'm sure the same thing happens with providers in Hong Kong), but it may not be so common or easily done to return to a "normal" life with a conventional male female relationship.
