Still far away from being even close to good, but there was noticeably more spring in Bangkok’s step this morning.
A number of the street vendors that just disappeared a couple months ago were back out this morning. Not back to normal, but much better.
Even a few side street restaurants were opening up, presumably to get a jump start on the Wednesday’s loosening of lock down measures that will allow them to open “reduced capacity dining in for double vaccinated clients being served by double vaccinated staff”. Two days and dine-in may be an option for the lucky vaccinated ones.
The local open air clothing market also show some signs of life. This market is packed in non-COVID times, but has been a complete ghost town the last couple of months. A handful of shops stayed open, skirting lock down laws by optically switching from direct to customer sales to wholesale, bulk only sales … with bulk conveniently meaning a minimum purchase of 1 item required. Wink, wink. Today, however, was different. More shops opening up, some even going as far as setting up the display cases outside the shop.
Hopefully some first small steps on the long way to recovery… | |
