Not surprised. Shanghai has been eroding for a long time in this regard. Last time I was there (2018) I actually saw a few massage places with their windows smashed in and police tape across the front. Easiest way to hookup was wechat, frankly, as even those online operators such as Nightlife were occasionally busted.
Manhattan and Judy's are (or were?) two bars near Jing'an temple area that were loaded with freelancers, but the prices tend to be higher there, if they're even open anymore. There was also a pretty great western style BBQ restaurant there. | |
