Thanks for reading. Not sure what to post as an update. BKK and PTY are locked down until further notice. In BKK it seems no one is going anywhere except to the supermarket or pharmacy for essential items. There's little traffic, and few shops are open. I went to MBK and the only thing open in that gigantic mall was Tops supermarket.
Speculation online as to how long this lockdown will last. Speculation as to when the PM will be turfed out by the real powerbrokers. The baht now trades at ~33/USD, which theoretically helps exports, but things are different now. Supply chains are wonky...
On a personal level this is devastating for many Thais. There's deep-rooted anger here. One example: last week the most popular food delivery service, Food Panda, fired some workers for alleged participation in a street protest. The Net universe turned on FP in a flash. The "delete" button disappeared from the app very quickly as people deleted it, which annoyed people even more. This all happened within a day or two, but apparently FP's market share fell off a cliff. This week I don't see any of their drivers around, only Grab drivers. This may be covered by Thai media now but obviously it's a massive loss of face for whoever controls FP, and shows just how furious people are at the situation.
alex_french: Yes, it is a good idea. Many of us have fond memories of years gone by. Find those photos and write them down. Re-opening go-go bars and chattering about the price of draft beer is way, way down the list of priorities now.
gwailoplayer: You mean delivery, because there's basically no takeout now. If you wander around lower Sukhumvit you'll probably find streetwalkers during the day. Needless to say, they're gonna disappear around sundown because curfew.
Thai Friendly has options. I'm not on F**book so don't use Tinder. Skout may/may not work here. Sourcing technicians has moved online. Frankly I'd like the option for a nice nuru massage or high-octane romp in a Phrom Pong shophouse massage place.
There will be light at the end of the tunnel but right now the tunnel is deep, dark and cold.
