I lived in Beijing between 2007-2013 and was young, single, and had the time and money to really explore the mongering underbelly of the city. I hear from friends that Beijing is a completely different city now, and they’ve cleaned up a lot of places like Maggie’s for example.
I used to live in the Dongzhimen area so that was my backyard but I looked for opportunities everywhere. I’m also a BBC and can speak limited Mandarin so my experience will likely differ to yours. I’ll share my experience and maybe it might still be relevant.
