I was staying at the Grand Silverland Hotel which is just a few doors down from this massage parlor. Although located right behind (one block) Ben Thanh, there are only a couple "spas" on this block of Ly Tu Trong. It's actually more pleasant this way since you're not constantly hassled for massages and price lists shoved in your face as you want to walk from point A to B.
In any case, it was late afternoon and I was lured in for an inexpensive oil massage and with the hardsell and the attire of the gals, I assumed HJ/BJ were the extras offered.
Go inside and of course, I was assigned a gal who wasn't the one who got me to go in. However, she was still good looking enough but not as stacked as the gals streetside. So we went through the massage which was actually fairly legit and not just going through the motions. At the conclusion, the masseuse inquires if I would like any extra services. Having researched this site and some other websites, I was prepared for outrageous offer in which I would have to bargain down significantly.
To my pleasant surprise, she offered full service for 1M VND. Now since was my first time in Vietnam, I had to compute the crazy exchange rate, and then realized this was pretty damn cheap since I had read the Japantown pricing was 2.5-3M. So I gladly agreed to her opening offer and and we went to business.
There a bunch of these types of places in the Ben Thanh area, as well as Bui Vien walking street. You just never know what you're going to get. Some places are a total rip-off, and then you run into a place where you felt you got a good deal.
So if you're staying in the area, this place is worth a shot. Massage prices are cheap and then you can find out what else is on the menu.
And I would highly recommend the Grand Silverland Hotel which has some large rooms by Asian standards for a "boutique" hotel. Service staff are friendly & helpful. Rates are higher than most of the others on this block but still reasonable given the room size. Breakfast buffet is included and excellent. The cheapest rooms they have come without windows, but I opted to get one grade higher since I like to have a window. | |
