Status of Shanghai
For those of you in Shanghai, I'm sure this is already very common knowledge, but for those planning on visiting here's a few things to be aware of.
There's a new sheriff in town. No, I mean there's an actual new police chief in Shanghai who's been stirring the city up hard trying to make a name for himself within the party. His policy is "a vice free Shanghai by 2020". Drugs were the first to go, my normal dealers all got arrested, deported, or disappeared off the face of the planet. To make sure no new drug dealers pop up the police just randomly show up to bars, restaurants, and even your residence to give you a random piss and hair test. All of these scare tactics worked wonders as no one is buying out there anymore. So, if you look at the way they handled drugs you can take a guess how they're planning on handling other vices...
Most spa, massage, and sauna places I know of have disappeared or gone legit. Lots of FL either choose to fly VERY below the radar or not patriciate in the industry anymore. Manhattan and Judy's have been going off and on for a while now. So Shanghai is running dry fast, and the few watering holes remaining area skyrocketing in price due to the new found danger.
If I could speculate for a minute I think the reason why the police are having such a difficult time cracking down on some of these establishments is because Party members also frequently partake and don't really want to see it totally go away? What do you think?
