Don't know the answer, but I'd say go for it and ask (broach the subject) anyway.
1. If they hate each other, then they won't do it and you'll have your answer
2. If they look like they like each other, but secretly hate each other, it could perpetuate some entertaining results
3. If they actually are friends, you'll get the 3P you were hoping for.
Regardless of how it turns out, you'll have your answer. Do it.
