1. About K-giving in non-reports sections, you got to be careful that it doesn't become a K-lovefest like it was previously with the Idle Chat thread. Basically, people who were participating there exclusively were moving up the ranks almost as quickly as those who were posting reports. Why make a report when you could just post in non-reports and move up just as quickly. I am not too bothered about giving 1 credit for each post, but I don't see how giving K in ratings in non-reports could lead to more reports, which was the OP was addressing. There could be less incentive to post those time-consuming reports if there are other ways to get K bombs.
I think it was suggested that the OP should be the primary recipient of K for non-report threads. Perhaps I misunderstood that point. At one point in the past, the OP got K for starting a non-report thread while the people who replied got nothing. Some dickwads who took advantage of this were posting several threads, with each asking a question. They got rewarded with the K, while the person who answered the question got acceptance points only. Food for thought.
Perhaps, as a compromise, give one credit per post, but leave the rating system unchanged. That could result in morr work for mods, however, as they need to monitor non-reports sections more closely for one-liners. Alternatively, make it 5A=1credit, as stated, and leave the rest unchanged. The reports sections should remain the lifeblood of the forum.
2. I am not sure how allowing RA30+ members to neg will encourage participation. The problem we had previously was that newer members were being negged by multiple parties. It only serves to piss people off, especially first-time offenders who are getting gangbanged left, right and centre by trigger-happy cowboys. Policing the forum should be the role of mods first and foremost. Press "Report to Mod".
Added sidenote: The ads and pop-ups are extremely annoying, but it is something we have got to get used to. Asking admin to delete them is not going to happen. It generates money. Admin was instructed by those higher up to make the report sections more open. That will nit change either. Luckily, we were able to negotiate an archives section at the time. Trust me when I say this, be thankful that our forum continues to be independent from its Chinese counterpart. It could be a whole lot worse.
