I would be pIssed off at that!
I'm normally a chilled-out guy but frankly, I was livid. Like many in HK, I've spent the past few weeks working damn hard on end-of-year tasks. Took Friday off to head to Macau. But on Thursday night I was at an event, work-related, with a lot of important people related to my industry. It's a fun time but it IS work--gotta go around, exchange the bizcards, all that.
And right in the middle of it I start getting these texts from Lina. WTF? I'm firing back quick texts and getting massive melodrama/sob stories: please don't be angry, I was wrong, I'll never do it again...sounding like some dysfunctional high-school girlfriend. My phone's buzzing in my pocket like some overcaffeinated wasp.
WGs from SE Asia know their ROI is much higher in Hong Kong, especially for slim & attractive freelancers who can speak English. Lina and I have had a lot of great fun--she's said she wants to earn funds before returning to Indonesia, where they will go a lot farther. But she seemed to have forgotten to take care of her premier clients. Had she said: don't come to Macau, Jack--I got a high-roller here, that would have been fine. Instead I got this weeping heap of steaming excuses.
Of course there are plenty of WGs in HK and after refunding my ferry tickets, I went Kowloonside and looked up one I hadn't seen in awhile, she was very glad to see me. Had a great time.
Things happen, but compare my experience with Petay's and a pattern emerges. One advantage of this forum is we share information. Of course we mongers talk to each other, why wouldn't we? So if she returns, and you wanna toss the Lina dice, just be sure to have a backup plan in case it comes up snake-eyes.
