Here is my take on this one liner problem :
8 / 9 years ago when the mods decided to try and contain the number of one liners in this forum, it was at a time when there were like 200 - 400 posts per day, not like the 20 - 40 posts we've been getting over the last few years. It was at a time when the reports section did not have so many classifications.
In those days, one report would have endless one liners (meaning pages and pages everyday) that DID NOT CONTRIBUTE towards the well being of that thread/report. It was also at a time where only Ks were available in the ratings. The name one liners was just an expression for USELESS REPLIES THAT WERE SHORT AND WERE POSTED FOR THE PURPOSE TO GAIN Ks
Any replies that were short but did contribute towards that thread were not considered to be a one liner ... even one word like 'yes' that answered someone's question was permitted without question
attempts to slow or stop these one liners weren't exactly successful and became a chore for the mods to handle (there were 8 to 10
committed and participating mods in those days, unlike now)
The idea of a newbie only report section was tried and almost over night the mods were able to contain the one liners to just one section ! then came the addition of As in the ratings and auto closing of threads after 3 months in the reports section which also helped.
but as in any rule, the interpretation can go haywire especially over the years when conditions have changed ...
we are no longer being inundated with USELESS one liners in the reports sections and that was the main purpose !
when one uses rating to make a reply its good and fine, if one makes a CONSTRUCTIVE short reply as a post its also good and fine
Mister, I was gently trying to tell you this last month when I brought this matter up ... don't get your knickers in a twist over this, especially in the chat sections !!! | |
