site is up and down, so iit is still not stable. it will take some time for prevention and intrusion control measures.

GFEclub.com went down for a few days recently due to being hit with a DDOS attack. The timing was coincidentally well planned as I was traveling during this time, hence why it took longer than it should've to come back up.
A DDOS attack is a cheap way to ruin a website's day by blasting the url with thousands of requests at once, consuming all the resources on the server and making it difficult or impossible for real users to access the site.
Not that we store personal user information, but this was not a breach in security and no data was compromised, it's simply a dick thing to do. Who would waste the time and money to even bother?
1) Competitive sites. Of which we have very few, namely one.
2) A scorned previous member who got banned. I can think of one or two.
Truth is it's impossible to know for certain who launches the attack, that's why cowards like to do it. To say the least we've mitigated it for now, but you never know when something like this will happen. We apologize for the downtime and hope it doesn't happen again any time soon. | |
