Blood in Semen (Update and some info for all)
Gents,
I really appreciate all those who pushed me to see the doctor in China and for those who were looking out for me about not seeking medical advise in this forum. I saw that the original thread is now closed and I'd like to frame the issue a little better by sharing my experience, so that in future someone with a similar situation would not freak out as I did. I've pasted the original post at the end of this post, if anyone's interested in what happened.
On to my update:
Today I visited a urology specialist and I feel much better now but there are still some tests to be conducted. To break it down:
1) I have high blood pressure and am on Plevix (blood thinner. Aspirin does this too) daily.
2) I take Cialis (20mg) occasionally [took one on the day it first happened]
3) exclusive partner. CV, unprotected sex, normal non-wild intercourse. Though a lot of flat iron which kind hurt my pelvic area
4) 1 discharge of fresh blood red ejaculations (2 days consecutively). No pain. Blood was consistent, i.e. the entire discharge was blood red but had the consistency of typical semen.
5) about 3 days later, masturbation discharges were dark red brown. Eventually cleared up. All no pain, no visible clots.
6) I had 2 occasions of rather painful (dull/blunt pain at the lower left abdominal area, i.e. pelvic region) and noticeably tender left testicle. This pain is not to be mistaken with potential appendicitis which is lower right and sharp pain.
What the doctor said:
1) Blood thinners like Plevix and Aspirin causes occasional bleeding in all sorts of places. And because it thins the blood, the bleeding is more severe. Note: During this period, I didn't take my meds i.e. Plevix regularly... so this was not a contributing factor
2) high blood pressure could have caused the bleeding to be more severe, coupled with point 3
3) taking Cialis which improved blood circulation to the penile area.
4) The lower abdominal/pelvic area pain is due to prostrate congestion (semen buildup), and can be manifest itself in anal discomfort, testicular pain, pelvic area pain.
5) It is unlikely that the bleeding was due to normal sexual activity unless a lot of prodding was done in the prostrate area, grabbing of scrotum, etc.
6) Cancer or infection is still a possibility which is currently being checked with blood test, urine test and an ultra sound scan of the prostate.
7) Doctor did the finger prodding of the prostate as a rough check if the prostate was painful or abnormally enlarged. No pain, no abnormality.
So here is where I am. I'd say 95% it was nothing, pending the blood and ultrasound scans. The experience was rather alarming. If you Google this symptom, the biggest issue is actually handling your partner who will definitely freak out more than you. This is definitely 9.9/10 on my freak out scale and I'm not a person who freaks out.
Personally, I'm not sure how to prevent this. This may or may not happen again but it is the subsequent need to assure the partner worries me. I guess using condom will ease her mind a little but for a couple in exclusivity, this might be a problem.
Anyway, here it is. I'm wiser from this, medically and I hope that my experiences will help to ease the next person who encounters a similar situation. Remember, if it is painful during the ejaculation or urination, seek immediate help. If not, then you might be experiencing what I had.
The original post:
I've a condition that is freaking me out. I'm in Mainland China now and would go to a doctor when I return to my country in a few days' time.
Last week as I was having sex with my FB, I was shocked to see bright red blood in my semen. It was not just a hint of it, there was a significant amount. However, the amount is about the same as a regular discharge. The same happened again on the following day.
Clearly we both freaked out but I am sure I'm clean as I had not had sex with anyone other than her for the last 6 months and she is most likely clean. I checked some online sites (very limited searches on Baidu) and most say that it could be as benign as a ruptured blood vessel due to rough sex and on the other end of the spectrum, prostate cancer. I did take a cialis 20mg, one a day for 2 days consecutively (inclusive of the day it happened). I didn't notice anything out of the norm, no rock hard erections, no throbbing erections, etc. I do not feel any pain during although some of the descriptions by people with the same conditions were quite frightening. I do feel some bouts of dizziness but it isn't that much of a concern.
About 4 days after the first incident, i.e. the third discharge, the blood now becomes dark brown. I was thinking that for the first 2 incidents, the bleeding is still happening, that's why the blood was bright red. However, now the blood has been stagnant and so it is dark brown? (clot? I'm no bio student). It's been about 10 days since the first incident and I am trying to masturbate to 'flush' it out but after 3 discharges (total of 5 since the first incident), it is still consistently dark brown.
BTW, from some of the responses at the medical site which I visited, a doctor said that it could not be any form of STD as there would be other signs of the STD before 'blood in semen' symptom.
Is there anyone here with the same experience or has some idea of what could be wrong with me? | |
