it really depends on the girl, the circumstances, even the day of the week. Personally I think HK$3K seems high but good vs bad value is really up to you to decide. I have had WGs I have met in bars and been offered $1K for over night. At other times HK$1.5K, $2K etc... Friday night often costs more than Monday night. Lots of variables. Shop around, take a look at the price guide in the sticky thread in the Bar section. In the end though... you pay what you are happy to pay.
in terms of security, I agree one needs to be careful. I always "prepare" my hotel room before I go out punting even if I'm not planning an overnighter. Having said that there is still an element of risk you need to weigh up vs the fun you can have. I prefer to limit overnighters to regulars I have been with multiple times... otherwise I cant sleep/relax.
