Legality of Prostitution in Macau
Prostitution of adults is not forbidden in Macau. However pimping and aiding and abetting prostitution are crimes. In the latter case, the Macau authorities have a lax enforcement policy on Saunas insofar as the girls there are regularly checked for HIV and STD's by the Macau Healthcare Services.
However, the fact that prostitution of consenting adults is legal does not mean that the Macau authorities like that activity. If prostitution takes place in closed spaces (such as in Saunas), the authorities give it a blind eye. They don't like overt soliciting on the streets and in public areas, such as the Lisboa basement. Considering that in the Lisboa most of the WG are PRC girls on a tourist visa, they can resort to disruption of public morals arguments to arrest and expel them on immigration related charges.
I have seen countless times asian women being stopped between the alley between Darling 1 and the Golden Dragon and having their passports checked. The police were targeting Asian girls dressed in skimpy or revealing clothes only and those with green passports (Vietnamese) were allowed through (probably as they are employed in a Sauna and as such havea massage therapist or entertainment visa) and those with PRC passports interrogated further.
Prospective clients of WG's of legal age face no criminal charges because of that, but if that is done overtly in public spaces, the police have the possibility of starting expulsion procedures on breach of immigration law charges, so be discreet. | |
