I have used this free online EXIF reader  http://regex.info/exif.cgi

It works.  Keep it mind, it doesnt matter where the picture came from (facebook, whatsapp, etc.).  EXIF is a standard metadata format embedded in the picture.  The problem is many sites will strip such data.  Facebook strips a ton of the useful info out (date, location, camera name, etc.)

Try it with a picture you've taken directly that hasnt been uploaded/downloaded to see the types of data fields that are often present.
