Agree with Simple and fJA entirely. Be as nice and polite as you would expect or hope to be treated. That being said, it is rough on them. The rejection, whether polite or abrupt, stings. For sure. I have proceeded with a session just to be nice and it's always a mistake. The girl knows you're not into it and she's not into it and its a double disaster...you need to do what you need to do but go easy on 'em.
