Absolutely, go for it and have fun!
Lately, my lack of reports is because I've been doing this instead.
Do a daytrip or overnight, go for drinks, watch a movie (more expensive than in HK in some places  ), or whatever... lots to do in and out of bed! 
At the end of it all, I usually give them 1k - 1.5k rmb whether they ask for it or not.
And I've had no bad experiences... yet...!!
Oh, also if you are arriving late, say after work on a friday, get the girl to call and reserve a room at a hotel first... lately I've found some places are full or only the most expensive rooms are left if you arrive after 9:30pm.
BTW, I want to join too!!
