It blew my mind when it first started happening to me ...
... and then it began to make sense: why is it that women are so possessive and protective of their partners? It becomes obvious: it's because they know what girls are like!
WOMEN know that women are attracted to older men,
THEY know that young girls will screw anything with grey hairs and a confident attitude
because when they were younger they also had that warmth in their panties when they interacted with male teachers, bosses, and other senior role models
They get turned on by confidence, by physical and emotional strength, by intelligence (life experience is often taken as a proxy for intelligence), and by social power and status (just as we want to do the Alpha hottie they want the Alpha male). If you can impress her friends, and make them want you, you get a double whammy of desire 
Of course, if you're also in-shape, well-dressed, and can pay your way (and hers), it amplifies whatever other physical qualities you may have.
