I have met a TON of Wanchai bargirls and had a billion conversations with them about everything - including this topic. I think you nailed it quite well.
Almost ALL Wanchai bargirls indeed come from poor, low status families. And western-guys, like me, fall completely outside the Asian status hierarchy. We are simply not part of it and dont even think about it. A hot gal is a hot gal and we (most of us, anyway) couldnt care less if her background is rich or poor. They know this.... We are relatively wealthy, and unlike wealthy locals.., we are AVAILABLE to them - not just as a punter, but as a potential boyfriend or husband.
What I have seen - in China, in Thailand, in PI -- is the higher-status girls stick to their own race -- mainly becasue they CAN. They CAN bag a higher-status local man. A lower-status girl cannot. She doesnt have this option in much of Asia. So, she can date a lower-status local, like herself, and often continue to struggle financially..., or she can go date a wealthier westerner who doesnt care about her status.
I bet the OP, given his stupid thinking, displays exactly this kind of snobbery himself with Asian gals. Classifying Inonesians or Filipinas somewhere slightly above dirt regardless of their background or education or skills; Thais a bit higher, Singaporeans higher still, etc. etc....
