Perhaps it is also the wealth difference. I know if I am hanging around someone who is considerably more wealthy than I (male or female) I act differently. I am more deferential. I try not to, especially in social settings where we are supposed to be social equals, but it is unavoidable.
You mention more humility in less developed countries. Maybe it is a little bit of awe. | |
