Isn;t there a window period? 10 weeks will pretty much yield 95% accurate results or so I heard.

Hey BChung,

Go see your doctor or a walk-in clinic and they'll get you all fixed up.  Here's the thing:

1.  For all the 'regular' (not HIV) STD's the period you have to wait for a test is very short, a matter of days only.  But even with that, a skilled STD clinic will treat you anyway.  Like the other brossaid, there are one-shot treatments (Azithromycin but the dosage is different for different STDs), and multi-week treatments (Doxycycline).  YOU HAVE TO GET THE DOSAGE RIGHT OR THE TREATMENT WILL NOT WORK.  If your doc gives you a prescription for a week-long course, just ask him if you can have the one pill treatment.  You will still have to stay off sex for about 10 days so work on those excuses to your SO!

2.  For herpes there's not much they can do.  There's been some speculation and research that a pre-symptom course of Acyclovir can prevent initial infection but to my knowledge this has never been proven.

3.  For HIV, you can wait 3 months for the standard test, or pay more and get the PCR test which is super sensitive and can test earlier and just as accurately.  Ask your Doctor for this test.

4.  You can always get the girl tested and be certain now.

5.  HPV, nothing you can do about this.  If she had it, you might get it and you might pass it on to your SO.  It would only show if your SO got a pap smear and within about 9 months most people clear (or repress) this virus on their own.

Good luck!
