Good point about piercing the ear etc - but have you forgotten the stud in "Year of the punting Dragon...?"

Errr... a bit painful ain't it? And makes me go quezzy some of these piercings!
And did you know that some old people/ancient superstition believe that piercing ears is a way to avoid evil gods from harming young girls? In years past, old ladies used to look at a baby and determine if such baby has "perfect looks" or not. i.e. completely symmetrical face, no birth marks etc - a "perfect baby" and if so, they would recommend that the girl have her ears pierced. You see, they reason that if the baby girl is "perfect," that evil Gods would want to have her or do her harm - and piercing her ears makes her "imperfect" and thus NO LONGER desirable to the Evil Gods.
Don't hold me to it - but that's what my aunt told me!!
I wonder if anybody else here have heard about this superstition or if such really belongs only to the ancients??!! Be good to know!
