I couldn't agree more that many of these girls perform they "job" like the military. Communism cultivated this...
I'd say it has also to do with the level of professionalism coupled with the mentality level on the term "service".
Like it or not, HK has been open for years and the outside influence be it western, Japanese or whatever has been there for years and the consumer mentality is not the same as the people in China. In China, good service or knowing how to provide proper service is still relatively new. If you have been to most of the normal places (sometimes even the so-called high-end places) like restaurants, the service level usually sucks big time.
Communism did a big favor to the Chinese in terms of creating a "machine" society which can be moved as a unit (which in my opinion one of the reasons why they are so successful in developing themselves in the last 30 years) but it has also created a society with less civilized mindset compared to the western world or even the Japanese.
As these girls working in pleasure establishments are also trained, they do follow certain guidelines and usually perform them like clockwork - just like a machine. Usually they will follow the rules, process blindly without thinking. Unlike those in HK, who are much more pro and the demand of the customers are probably much different, these girls may not even know how to be flexible in performing their tasks.
