This is a real danger. Some of the masseuses can and will truly injure you, leaving you with a messed up back, neck or spine when they over do it. I hear of this happening in the mainland all the time.
You have to be prepared in an instant to tell them to stop, and you need to mean it. Get up and walk away if you must, somethingthat is useful in many interactions on the mainland. One of the biggest gripes with China sometimes is the factory (or military perhaps) mindset. When people take on a job that are strictly taught to follow the rules/instructions of whatever skills they are learning and most do not develop the ability to modify/adapt their skills to the situation.
Some of you see this in the sauna girls in CP whereby these girls always follow a prescribed routine, starting with a cat lick of right nipple, and so on.
Well this is true of practically all massage places I have been to in China. These massage girls all follow a prescribed massage routine. Unlike in HK, they never ask me which part of my body is tired/hurts a lot, they never adjust the massage to spend more time at one part more than another, they never ask if they can step on my back, they never think to not carry out a procedure or two if they sense it may aggravate a person's pre-existing condition, they are just not really customer-oriented. They do their routine and then wait for tips.
So the ones who get hurt in mainland massages are those like me who have long-term pre-existing muscle/spinal/back problems because these girls never adjust their programming. For great veggie massages, it is better to go to the better veggie places in HK. |
