OK - yes, I do hate to have to buy gifts. I never know what to to get - plus, in the case of buying gifts for such purposes, I'm always worried about being caught by the SO doing this; don;t know why but I just do.
I much prefer to just give cash - and I do believe that the gal - especially in Asia - mch prefer this too.
Now, this may not work for every one and for every occassion, but what I do when I want to give cash but also want to lessen the possible "impact" of doing so, I would say things like" you know what, you are perfect in every way, but.... I really hate your undies; do me a favor and shop for some nice ones! Here, if you don't mind, (handing over cash) - no way in hell I'd go shopping with you for undies!!"
Something like that. And Gift Card?? You gotta be kidding - I think instead THAT would really be hard to explain to the gal why you'd be giving her a gift card! And besides which, Gift cards have still NOT caught on in most parts of Asia.
