EXIF data
NOTE: i'm not an expert on this stuff. but here's my understanding...kaka, CanuckGuy, whoever, feel free to chime in:
i downloaded a simple viewer and checked some of my fotos.
the EXIF is limited to the camera info, with one exception: checking an image i'd processed in Photoshop, it displayed that info. as one hundred million squillion use P-shop, so what. it did note that it was on a Mac so divide that number by ten.
phone-cams do have GPS (that's how Google Maps works) so if that's available, it's likely in the EXIF-data. so yes: date/time/location of the CAMERA can be found. info on the software used to tweak the foto (please note: of course i use P-shop to crop, adjust brightness/contrast/saturation and re-size for Web, NEVER to alter features unless of course i'm in the image, where i blur myself out). as far as i know, there's no other info, at least on the Mac OS X side. i don't do Windows, so there may be more powerful readers out there. i used one free software program, learned more about my camera than i ever knew, even what s/w program i used to process the image.
i dunno how much EXIF data is displayed on camera-viewfinders. u find a lot more with a specific EXIF-data program. most cameras don't have GPS (yet!) but they DO have date/time, which can usually be displayed on the viewfinder. so if yr foto shows u and a landmark showing where u are, u were there, at that date/time.
image-content is the most important--if there's a pic of u and someone, and someone else sees it, cd be troublesome. no EXIF involved there.
but as people snap away with camera-phones and post the results all over F***book, this is something to be aware of. advances in personal tech are eroding our privacy, and even if inconclusive,when combined with other circumstantial evidence, cd cause probs with those of us who enjoy The Hobby.
be aware of these "digital fingerprints."

EDIT: OK, i tried checking a foto i downloaded from Flickr. this had the user's name and email address (both of which i assume he typed into Flickr). also, this info:
Latitude: N 30° 16.0316'
Longitude: W 97° 44.3434'
Altitude: 122.00 m
Time (UTC): 21:01:44.00
GPS Satellites: 04
Date (UTC): 2011:03:19
that's the degree of triangulation you can get.
