My advise, don't worry about it!! Seriously - just come in whatever even to the highest class places in CP - you and your money is welcome however you turn up!!
And as for drinking - I'd advise, forget about serious drinking at the KTV and just stick to canned beers; but even these ones - there ARE also fakes.
The corkage is ridiculous pricing - especially if you just show up at the KTV bringing your own bottle - something like close to the price for the bottle at the KTV ( I think) and you're right, some agents MAY be able to help you negotiate it down a bit - but why bother?
Besides which - are you only going to ONE KTV night whilst in CP?? And if not, are you thinking of lugging multiple bottles to China with you?
Like I said, just keep your 1 bottle in your room for pre and apres KTV cocktails - and just stick to canned beer whilst there.
Just my take on this all.

My old pappy used to say "lie and you need to keep on lying to cover the first one - so forgeddabout it! Life's too short"
And talkin' about me ole Pappy - a while back I ran into one of my Pappy's old friends at a KTV having just a grand old time, surrounded by a bevy of beauties. Sort of caught me unawares as I was amazed that here was this guy well into his 60's and still gallivanating and rabble rousing.
He saw my bit of embarrasment and then pulled me aside; and in all seriousness he said to me
" SEAJ - your old pappy, God bless his good soul - told me a long time ago something that I need to pass on to you"
Then he looked at me top to bottom and went on...
"He said that at his age, it don't matter what kind of car he drove, what brand of suit/the custom tailor he had it made at, never mind the kind of watch or ring he had on - all those only mattered when he was young. All that mattered to him then - and the most cherished thing he had on?? A nicely fitting set of dentures"
I was really flabbergasted but he went on...
"And he also told me that at his age, the ONLY recreation drug that matters was Viagra"
Just like that and my Pappy's old friend went back to his bevy of beauties, laughing, carrousing, drinking and just having a god old time.
Ahhhh..... a message from beyond! In a KTV nonetheless!!
No, I did NOT really enjoy myself that night.

Just incase you're thinking of going to CP or GZ on the CRH train...........
via Lowu border crossing - I'd advise you strongly to re-consider this decision and just jump on the direct train.
I missed the Direct train a couple days ago and decided to go via Lowu. Yes, it was Sunday afternoon - but I figured that most people would be RETURNING to Hong Kong I/O going up. What I didn't figure on is that the Local Chinese are the MAIN passengers on the CRH train and not Hong Kongers.
Anyway, everything was OK until I got out of Lowu customs - The MTR as usual on time, the immigration lines was only 10 minutes etc. Then my troubles started!
I waiited over 40 mins queuing for the CRH ticket - 30 minutes to get to the ticket buying area and another 10 to line up for the actual ticket - where they now require ID to buy the stupid ticket. This is what's causing all the delays.
I spent over an hour from the time I got off the HKG MTR to when I got on the CRH train - and most times in hot, overcrowded, airless - not even fans - lines!
Just about the same 70 minutes or so I would have needed to spend if on the Direct train, and here I was ...screwing around and getting all hot and harried lning up instead.
