I've heard other pathologists and gyns say that, while your body will clear HPV in 6-12 months, in fact your body is really just suppressing the virus (as it does with the HSV or herpes virus and many others) implying that HPV could possibly recur on its own in times of stress. I don't know if there's clinical proof to this thesis, but at least some doctors think it's possible.
As a corollary, the Gardasil HPV vaccine is recommended to be given early in life, since once a girl has gotten the HPV strains it protects against, it's too late for the vaccine to do its job. This would seem to imply that the drug developer concurs with the theory that HPV in the body is merely suppressed, not eliminated. | |
