I agree with your statement. It's not that it CANNOT workout, but odds are definitely against it. Like you said, normally marriages are difficult enough, add a WG situation and the odds of happily ever after are rare (IMO).
For those who want to take the plunge anyway....Go for it! No one is stopping you, but realize the risks. There are plenty of real life examples that show how these ended in disaster. They are all over this site and others.
Doesn't mean yours will not work out. I met a couple over the weekend that looks awesome. A stunner of a Thai girl with a an expat. I think this site has corrupted my mind as I kept thinking this guy picked up a WG and married her. WTF! What is wrong with me??? Why can't a white guy from HK just find a normal Thai beauty, fall in love and that's it??? Why does my mind need to keep wondering if she was a WG!?!?!
This girl had an amazing body, really tall, and the best set of legs I have ever seen on a Thai girl. She had the gorgeous legs of a super model, and her tan bronze like skin was glowing in her short dress. She was fantastic. I wanted to hi-five the guy,  but that would just be weird. She's a bit older too, they have a couple kids, what a MILF. 
I actually don't think she was a WG, she has some professional job. But he initially was talking about his business trips to Bangkok and stuff. And my mind was like, "OH YEAH! PICKED HER UP IN BANGKOK! YOU ROCKED THAT PUSSY AND COULDN'T LET GO! YOU FUCKING DAWG!"  Then he continued about how he actually met her in HK while she was doing some "work", I'm thinking, "OH YEAH! YOU PICKED UP THAT SWEET ASS IN WAN CHAI AND YOU WERE HOOKED! FUCKING AWESOME!"
