Congrats, heck of an effort.
The way I did what you were trying to do today was to go to the door and knock, unless the sign said DND. The rest will take care of itself. My massage session today was with a Canto that spoke no English. It all worked out. I suspect you are over thinking this. I just hit the Gal' DB, make a list, try to call if they like appointments and try, otherwise just knock. Remember if you don't like what you see just say "shei shei" and move along. I saw that a lot today over at CC in TST.
I also started a thread to ask for translations for some of our slang from english to canto/mandarin. If I"m gonna learn chinese it will be much more useful terms than "where is the bathroom" 
Also start a thread asking what you want in the last paragraph, heck, I'd like to know that....
