if your daughter took a Summer job as a prostitute, as opposed to, say, waiting tables in a res ... For that matter there'd be a lot of jobs that I'd prefer my (theoretical) daughter not take. I wouldn't want her working on an auto assembly line, and yet I still drive a car. I wouldn't want her working at a nuclear power station, and yet I still use electricity. Yes I know, my objections therein are more the typical 'parental' objection that drives adults to want all their kids to go to medical school, law school, or whatever 'high achiever' situation you choose to conjure up. That's very different from the emotional affrontery posed by one's offspring going into hooking.
However what is the same is that we all use the services of others from professions we would not pursue ourselves. Nothing wrong with that, and if we appreciate that service from others just as we like to be appreciated in our work, it goes a long way to making this world work out for everyone. |
