I would recommend you go to Lin Heung Tea House on 160-164 Wellington Street, Central. It is an old restaurant and has alot of character complete with cranky elderly staff. Dim Sum here is pretty good, not the best. You most likely will have to share a table with others as the place is always crowded and they don't take reservations.
I don't recommend Luk Yu Tea House which is listed in many guidebooks. It has allowed fame to get to their heads and food is not up to local standards, but may be better than what you are used to. This place is on 24 Stanley Street, Central.
Currently the best place for dim sum without the trappings of the typical dim sum restaurant is called Tim Ho Wan, the Dim Sum Specialists on 2-20 Kwong Wa Street, Mongkok. This place is always super crowded. You will have to wait almost 1 hour to get a seat. The chef/owner of this place won (I think Michelin awards) awards at his previous job for his dim sum creations and afterwards went out on his own. You should go on off-days to this place, avoid public holidays and weekends. | |
