Ah yes, the myth of the perfect pickup line. The function of a good pickup line is to give the girl a face-saving way to accept the advance of a guy she'd like to know anyway. This is especially important with attractive women who have a bit of pride.
However, it's ridiculous to think that there exists a magic phrase that will guarantee success with any woman. No matter what a toad says to a hot chick, he's still going home alone. On the other hand, a really attractive guy could just about say anything he wants and succeed with most women. The way one says things, attitude, eye contact, expression, apparent sincerity, tone of voice, etc. are all more important than the words themselves. In fact, the more something is an obvious 'line', the less likely it is to succeed with an attractive girl.
A lot of this is just a matter of chemistry. Experiments have shown that we form opinions on people after just a second or so of observation; someone will walk into a room, male or female, and you know instantly whether or not you like the person. No pickup line is going to make up for lack of chemistry. | |
