USA's GDP is about 5 times that of China, whilst US population is about one third i.e. US to China income ratio is about 15:1. Yes, China is predicted to be bigger economy than USA but that is a long ways off, and based on current factors which could change over time.
Anyway, aren't we deviating from the topic? The question about feeling "pity", which this thread has shown is a grey area, there is no single black and white answer. The reasons a girl takes up the "profession" are many and varied. Seems to be agreement that Bros pity girls who are forced, tricked, etc., but not those who do it willingly, although we are getting a mixed message regarding those who do it due to economic hardship.
I do feel empathy for the WGs who work due to real financial issues, but not pity. I'm sure many from China, Thailand, Vietnam, etc., need the money for more than just their own purposes. These girls are real people and all have their stories, and I believe most Bros agree they should be treated well and fairly. I'm sure most WGs would prefer we give them some respect rather than our pity ..... and our business.
I find it hard to accept the argument the WGs are "greedy". They work reasonably hard, their careers are relatively short lived, and their work carries risks such as; medical, personal safety, emotional, and rip-offs (from handlers and customers). In any case, if we see the WG as greedy doesn't that risk the mongerer being portrayed as a potential victim? I don't see any victims here. | |
