It is going to be CRAZY BUSY in Wan Chai. Scale of 1 - 10 it's a 12. HALF the people are standing outside, the streets are somewhat blocked off because of so many people, and I remember tents in some areas.
One year I remember my mates and I waited outside a bar (Coz it was too crowded inside) and one of them braved going inside to find a waitress to order a round of drinks. Took forever and it was such a pain no one was going to bother again. I stopped going to Wan Chai that weekend because it's just too busy.
I haven't gone in a while, it's been a couple years, I went 2-3 times but now just avoid it. There's no space inside any bar in wan chai and an entire army of several thousand drunk people standing in the streets.
Tierdhand is correct, good luck finding a taxi. I once remember after the finals on Sunday night there was not a taxi in sight so we drunk walked all the way to the MTR (along with thousands of other much worse drunks cramming into the MTR) and drunkenly made our way to eat some food at wan chai and somehow eventually found a taxi before it got real crazy.
Plan on walking shoes from the stadium after the day's matches are over, that's easier than standing in a taxi line with 500 people with 1 taxi showing up every 5 minutes.
It is a fun atmosphere no doubt, definitely a crazy party, but finding ladies and finding drinks are difficult. The ratio of customers to servers/WGs are impossible.
