So you are telling me you have never gotten a Ching Chong remark or a "go back to your country" remark your whole life? Man, I need to move to the OC when I could afford a home there.
Ching Chong remark? Do you mean when they do the stupid sounds, thinking it sounds like chinese?
Only when I was in grade school...
But I don't take it personally, since in school, everyone takes words from other ethnic races.
"Hey essey! Que pasa?" (acting hispanic)
"Sup dawg?" (acting African American)
"Catch ya latah brah!" (acting like white surfer punks)
*random sounds that don't sound like chinese to us that know* (acting chinese)
None of it was malicious though... just kids being kids.... and it's not as if non-chinese kids know actual chinese phrases...
But by junior high, no one was doing that type of "chinese" sounds, because they know they sound stupid....
Maturity was setting in...
As for the "go back to your country" remarks... nope... not once....
Maybe I've just been surrounded by a diverse group.
From highschool onwards, I've been hanging out with hispanics, whites, and asians. Not many blacks in OC, but when I was in UCLA, I was dorm buddies with a black guy for 2 years. (and he was a cool guy)
In the end, I think it's all about who you surround yourself with... and where you tend to go....
