Actually, Athena Chu without makeup is incredibly sexy.  There was a movie, Pandora's Box...Journey to the West  from the 80's with her in it.  There is a scene with her, no makeup.  Absolutely stunning.  I am going to see if I can find it.

All I have to do is step out the door to find any number of Chinese guys with really ugly Chinese wives/GFs. Why is it so odd that there are Western guys who also have ugly Asian wives/GFs? A lot of those Westerners are ugly themselves. It sounds to me like there is some racial issue here that you guys are giving voice to.

What underlies this long-standing joke among Asian men about foreigners dating ugly Asian women, and this thread btw, is Asian male resentment that Gwailo's are fucking their women. "Yes, it may be true that white guys who couldn't even get laid back home are up to their eyebrows in free pussy over here, but they're only fucking our ugly women HA HA HA."

I've lived decades in Japan, HK, and Taiwan, and if there's one thing those countries do have in common, it's the bitterness the local males feel about foreigners fucking their women. And the less sexually successful the guy, the more pissed off he is.

I find the premise of this thread boring.  Yes, we men have different tastes.  OK, so what...  But buried in here, there are a couple of interesting questions:

1)  The fact that this thread exists at all...  Why is it necessary for Asians to make fun of the inferred preferences of non-Asians?  [Marsupial may be right, it may have to do with resentment]

2)  The facts of the matter...  Do non-Asian and Asian preferences in Asian women differ...  Why?  If this is true, there must be some interesting social conditioning going on.  I am curious..  What is it?

I'm sure that some Asian guys are also resentful that many Asian girls actually prefer white guys to Asian guys. And I'm talking appearance only - not that we might have more money, which, in HK, we probably don't.    

I was on the MTR a couple of days ago and a young, tall, blonde, athletic guy got on. The girls around me were literally wetting their knickers.    

I think that people in Hong Kong are much more likely to judge a person's appearance based on a set of parameters, eg.  'She is ugly because she has freckles', or 'She is pretty because she has fair skin'.

I hear my mother do this all the time.  She looks at a girl and almost seems to go through a mental checklist to decide if the girl is pretty or not.  If the girl has dark skin, she almost automatically fails because in her mind, dark is not pretty, fair is.

The irony is, if my father had the same checklist in his mind, he probably wouldn't have chosen my mother

Why do we judge western tastes much more than Chinese tastes?  I guess western tastes stand out more.  Many HK guys are choosing non HK wives, but the mainland girls that they are choosing don't stand out as much as a Thai girl.  Perhaps, local people wouldn't even consider a Thai girl as:-
1: They don't match the checklist,
2: They are concerned about the prejudice of others, or
3: They are prejudiced themselves (ie. I wouldn't choose her, she looks like a maid)
Most local guys will end up with a Chinese looking wife.  It looks normal, and it doesn't really matter if the wife isn't pretty, or is a seelai, because it won't stand out.

On the other hand, westerners' choice of asian girlfriends will ALWAYS stand out, simply because the guy isn't Asian.  Because of that, his wife or gf will ALWAYS be judged more.  Even if his wife is the same seelai that the Chinese guy would have chosen, she will be judged on not being pretty, as if the western guy should find someone better looking.  If she is hot, people will judge her as a slut.  

I don't think that Westerners, on the other hand, are that quick to judge beauty in this way.  It's certainly not based on the checklist that my mother and many other Chinese use.

for the record, of the 5 on my short list of beautiful women, Christy Chung was married to a white dude and so did Michelle Yeoh.  And Michelle Reis is half Portugese.

just to show that we Asian dudes don't necessarily have the same tastes, I do disagree about what sexpert said about Ellen Chan, Irene Wan and Veronica Yip - didn't find any of them attractive.  Loletta Lee I did, but more because she was cute rather than because she was beautiful.

Most Asian dudes find Vicky Zhao beautiful - I find her cute but not beautiful.  Charlene Choi (Ah Sa) - cute but not beautiful.  Gillian Chung (Ah Gil) - beautiful.  Cecilia Cheung - beautiful - until I saw the hairy bush.

I think that many local HK girls resent mainland girls too, whose overall beauty and cheapness is stealing HK men from the local women.
You might not know it, but western wives in Hong Kong also resent mainland girls, and the local slut in the HK office, or even the maid on her day off in Wan Chai, whose hotness make previously faithful Western husbands stray from their wives.

Yes, I think that beauty is extremely subjective.  At the same time, I think that Asians, generally, don't seem to understand the subjective nature of beauty.  

If they believed that beauty was in the eye of the beholder, they wouldn't be out buying whitening facial masks.  They do this because they believe that 'fair skin = pretty'

For me, I couldn't care less if a girl had fair skin or not.  If a girl has slightly darker skin, I'd prefer her to be comfortable with it, rather than going for the scary whitened clown lookthat these girls seem to think makes them look attractive.

For me though, I think that Angie Chiu Nga Chi 趙雅芝 is gorgeous, and I'm talking about now, as well as 30 years ago!  How many women do you know who are fckable at 55?

is it me or does Kate Tsui kind of look like a younger version of Lucy Liiu.  So yeah those would be unques looks that I as an Asian am not really attracted to.
