I would check the DB and scope out a few I think looked good (and not too photoshopped) before heading out. After arriving I'd just knock on a bunch of doors and get a peek at what else is available or piggyback like the other bros (one bro would knock and 3 other guys looks over his shoulder...).
I never really grew accustomed to the walk-up scene. It was too 'meat marketish' for my tastes, but i do remember seeing some real stunners. Sometimes some of them just set-up and haven't had time to advertise on 141 or any other sites. Turnover seemed rather high too which also brings about good and bad points.
I'd recommend just getting yourself out there and start mongering. No amount of suggestions/advice beats experience.
By the way you should also check out 8MK if it's still around. They pick up mainland girls and hook them out. If you're lucky you may find a gem or two there.
