Safety in china

As a visitor to China I am always concern for my safety, does any of the bros out there who are also foreigners to China also worry about their safety when going punting?  When I talk about safety I mean, getting robbed, or cheated by the WG?

What's up with the acid attacks lately?  Guys dropping gallon jugs of Draino into crowds from 40 stories up?

I didn't do it.  Really I didn't.

I could go through the US newspapers of just the last few days and come up with incidents that would make you think setting foot in America would result in instant death. Reading the English press you'd think the Brits are all knifing each other. I doubt very much China is any more dangerous than most places in the West.

in china, if you're worried about safety, just stick to the 4-star hotels and visit their in house saunas and massage joints.
they're more upscale, and you'll find everything you need.....
After you're done, just saunter back up to your room.
No need to even exit the building!

You should be concerned bro. Be prepared to lose a kdney - it's very common and is the price you pay if you want to visit these backward countries.

Man, just keep your head on straight and you'll be fine.  If something seems to sketchy, walk away.  Just use your common sense, and you'll have nothing to worry about.  China is harmless.

Found it:

Even this week's article in the WSJ says the Triads are no longer using meat cleavers as weapons, so it must be getting even safer.  The acid attacks were a weird step back though.

When I head to China, I am usually with a few buddies or a couple of locals but I havent been there by myself which still gives me an uneasy feeling.  This is due to the fact that I am unable to speak mandarin and it just seems so sketchy.  At least in HK and NA, I am able to speak the language.

So many of you bros from other parts of the world venture to china by yourself to check out the scene?

I will, just as soon as I run out of WGs in Hong Kong!

Seriously, I hear what you're saying about not speaking the language.  I've been in that spot in many places in the world where english is a rarity, and bribes are expected andcustoms are strange.  It does give one pause about flying solo.  Still, when I think about making it across the border on my next trip, I never worry much about it.  Most likelyI'll go it alone . . . except for the lovely lasses I pick up along the way.

I've done China alone but it really is a bit scary...

...nothing compared to HK safety.  Even the most familiar areas can be scary at times, that's why I too punt with locals that I know.  Usually when I am in China, I hang out with a friend of a relative who happens to be police and his family happens to be in military so he has special plates on his car too, criminals don't fuck with these cars.  One time I was in Foshan on my own and was surrounded by 6 Sichuan boys on motorbikes at 2am after visiting a local KTV.  I just said, "shun di (brother) my relatives here are "gong an" here's 300rmb, go get something to eat.  I don't want trouble and you don't want trouble." The guy just said thank you and left.  I was scared as shit, China boys are a bit different, they look you directly in the eyes long term, it makes you really uncomfortable, especially an American like myself, we in NYC don't do this unless we want to fight or kiss.  I was shocked they fell for it, but I kept my cool.  NEVER AGAIN!  I won't monger on my own, at least not late night.

This is one of the main reasons why I am concerned going to China solo.  For someone like me, even though I am chinese, when I am out on the street the locals know right away that I am not from around there and by the time I open my mouth and speak madarin like a 4 year old thats totally telling them that I am ripe for the pickings.

I would definately agree that HK feels much safer than China, but the few times that I have been with bros in China, it is so fun in China.

I guess travelling into China wtih a few bro is the smarter way to go and have a good time without the concern for ones safety and well being.

It really all depends on where you go and who you go with.

As a rule of thumb, never go to KTV without someone local who knows the place - you will almost certainly get ripped off big time otherwise.

Most of the "legit" saunas you will be fine in as well as massage places, i have never had any trouble there.

If you pick up a FL, the chances are you will be fine but only take one back, don't let her talk her into bringing a mate back as well. Also, make sure you don't fall asleep until after they have left otherwise something will get lifted, especially if they are local, thats happened to me once

This is why I always just go to overnight places, and keep my valuables in another location, usually my family's house.  I just bring minimal amounts of cash, usually double the 500RMB overnight fee, enough for breakfast, a bit of shopping and taxi fare.  Oh god I miss China.. LOL..

Honestly, just carry yourself like you would in any big city in the Western world. If you act with the same due diligence you won't run into any issues. I've been to China several times and never once did I ever feel unsafe/uncomfortable.

lol when i ve been to Foshan for 3 days (Nanhai Distric) nothing happened to me and my brother, just some guys calling at us but never felt uneasy.. we are really young (23 back then) though. Everytime we were on the street no one cared about us except the homeless ppl (钱,钱,钱。。。。), but some locals gave us a hint of what we should have done so nothing happened.. maybe because we were young and not well dressed? well...was a great experience..hope to do that again
we stayed in a 2 stars hotel..no ring calls about sex service or whatever..everything was smooth...
